Portland Songwriter’s Association Songwriting Contest

"Woody and the BPA" Winner and Runner-ups:

The Portland Songwriters Association wishes to thank all the contestants who entered the 'Woody and the BPA' songwriting contest.

The winner is:
Jeff Bundy for his song 'The Mighty Columbia Rolls On'

Runner-ups:

Richie Rosencrans
Song title:  'That River Wide'

Will Hobbs
Song title: 'Race to the Bottom Line'

Dan Weber
Song title:  ‘Oh Woody’

The winner received $150.  There were 3 runners-up and each received $50.

Look for all of them to perform at the BPA 75th Anniversary Celebration on Sept 15, 2012 at the Bonneville Dam.

Back in 1937 the Bonneville Power Administration was formed, a new government agency tasked with creating jobs and electricity harnessing the nation's natural resources.  Woody was hired for one month, he needed the paycheck and the BPA decided they needed a folksy way to promote their new agenda.  Guthrie wrote 28 songs in 30 days, including "Roll on, Columbia".  The winner of the contest gets to perform at the BPA 75th celebration - Sept 15th at Bonneville Dam!
